Pathways

To provide students with an extensive choice of A Level subjects, Spalding Grammar School and Spalding High School work in partnership, with several subjects taught collaboratively across both sites.

In the 2027-28 option grid (below), subjects shared with SHS are highlighted in blue. Photography, Classical Civilisation, French and Drama are taught at Spalding High School, but are fully accessible to SGS students. Further details about these subjects can be found on the SHS website.  For all other subjects, please refer to the SGS website.

Students are expected to commit to their chosen subjects for the full two years of Sixth Form study. For this reason, the majority follow a programme of three A Levels and one Enrichment subject.

Subjects are organised into five option blocks (A-E), with Block E dedicated to Enrichment. Students may select one subject from each block only.

Further Mathematics applicants must choose “Maths Only for Further Maths” in Block 12B as well as Further Mathematics in Block 12D.

As a selective academic school, we encourage our most able students to maintain breadth within their studies wherever appropriate.

Students achieving six or more GCSE grades at Grade 7 or above may choose to study four A Levels, or even four A Levels plus an Enrichment subject.

Students considering four subjects are strongly advised to select combinations that develop complementary knowledge, understanding and transferable skills, ensuring a balanced and manageable programme of study.
