Music
Curriculum Intent
We will encourage musicality, creativity with originality, and celebrating the unique talents of every musician.
The department puts emphasis on a practical curriculum, especially at KS3. Students are introduced to a broad variety of styles which are fluid in order to always seek to make topics interesting, appealing and relevant. The curriculum for Years 7 to 9 also directly links to the Areas of Study learnt for GCSE. Keywords for the specification are introduced and used as early as Year 7. Another link from KS3 to GCSE and A Level is the introduction of both Performance and Listening CATs. The weighting of these marks is done on G4S with 60% of a student’s final Assessment point mark being made up out of performance/composition/practical assessment and 40% being made up of a listening and appraising. This is done for a majority of topics.
In keeping with the departments aim of providing all students with a regular platform to perform and be involved in music, we offer a good range of extra-curricular activities including different ensembles, student led groups and instrumental lessons in partnership with the Lincolnshire Music Service. These are well supported by our musicians and lead to successful concerts at regular times throughout the school year. Our musicians continue to play an important role in school events both for those attended by the public and whole school occasions also.
