Welcome from the Head Student

I joined Spalding Grammar School Sixth Form from Spalding Academy, drawn by its strong academic reputation, expert teaching staff, and excellent sports provision. The environment I found has been both challenging and rewarding, helping me develop confidence, independence, and readiness for the future.

The school’s high academic standards ensure students are both stretched and supported. Teachers are specialists who bring depth of knowledge and genuine enthusiasm to every lesson, and I find this makes lessons engaging and purposeful. Their passion for their subjects is inspiring and motivates me to achieve my best.

At A-level, independence is central. Choosing subjects that reflect my interests has made study more meaningful and allowed me to take ownership of my education and future plans. My peers share this experience, whether their next steps are university, apprenticeships, or employment.

Support from staff is exceptional. Mrs Oglesby offers detailed, practical UCAS guidance; Dr Leadbeater encourages academic challenge and ambition; and Ms Dearing enriches Sixth Form life through opportunities that build confidence, social connections, and leadership. As Head Boy, working with them and my Deputies, Rupert and Isaac, has been an incredible experience.

The Sixth Form community is one of SGS’s greatest strengths. From my first day, I was warmly welcomed by staff and students, making the transition seamless. Meeting people from diverse backgrounds has broadened my outlook and enhanced my experience—nobody is left out.

Beyond the classroom, opportunities are extensive. Captaining the rugby team has developed my leadership and teamwork skills, while co-founding the Politics Society has allowed me to lead debates on current affairs. Other societies—Medical, Media, and Economics—show how students are encouraged to take initiative and contribute to school life.

Overall, Spalding Grammar School Sixth Form has shown me the value of hard work, independence, and curiosity. With expert teaching, high expectations, and a supportive community, it is the ideal place to grow academically and personally.
