Learning Facilities

Our buildings and teaching rooms reflect our school’s growth from the Victorian era to present day. We are proud of our rich architectural history: appropriately students learn History and Law in the oldest buildings, while studying Business and Economics in our Business Studies Centre, with lecture and boardroom facilities.

Students conduct experiments in our six Science laboratories, each fully equipped for Biology, Chemistry or Physics, and our dedicated Engineering Laboratory links Science to learning in Design Technology. One great strength of our school is the well resourced suite of Technology rooms where students from Year 7 use computers to aid their designs, can access a laser cutter and TIG welder, and also develop skills in Food Technology.

Computers are accessible throughout the school in classrooms and in dedicated IT suites. In Modern Foreign Languages, students use specialist language software, web-based media, audio and video facilities and satellite television. In our IT rooms, students are able to develop their own approach to IT as well as engage in wider research and digital presentation skills. Students also use computers in many other subjects to support their learning more generally.

Students are able to develop their creativity in our specialist Art and Music rooms as well as in the Drama Studio. Our facilities in Art allow students to explore their curiosity through a range of 2D and 3D media. In Music, students develop their composition skills using Sibelius and Garage Band software. The Drama Studio provides an enclosed space, with its own technical facilities, for rehearsal or for more intimate performances.

Also, the School Library is a popular resource for students who take ample opportunity to read widely from well-stocked shelves.

We are very fortunate to have over 22 acres of grounds, including a sports pavilion with hospitality area and changing rooms. Students learn a range of sports, such as basketball, rugby, gymnastics, football, badminton and indoor hockey. During lessons, at lunchtime and after school, our students can also play table tennis on the Sports Hall balcony. Our fields are extensive and well-used in both curriculum and extra-curricular time, including by our many rugby, football, cricket and athletics teams.
