Physical Education
Sports Leaders
Sports Leaders is a recognised qualification that is offered as part as part of the sixth form enrichment program. The qualification is designed to use sport and physical activity to help students hone their leadership skills whilst helping themselves and others stay physically active.
Students plan, lead and evaluate physical activity sessions over several classroom-based and practical lessons. This qualification enables students to learn and demonstrate vital life skills such as effective time management, organisation and communication whilst learning to lead basic physical activities to younger students within our school community, and pupils at our feeder primary schools. We offer level 2 Sports Leadership qualification which also carries UCAS points.
Duke Of Edinburgh (Gold)
The Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award is available to students in the Sixth Form. The award at gold level consists of five sections: expedition, volunteering, skill, physical and residential.
The Duke of Edinburgh is an award that is recognised and regarded highly by employers, colleges and universities. The expedition for the Gold award is five days, 4 nights. It requires students to have their own rucksack, walking boots and waterproofs; other equipment such as tents, trangias (for cooking), first aid kits, maps and compass will all be provided for each group.
Senior Games
At Spalding Grammar, we have both senior rugby, football, basketball, hockey and cricket teams that all regularly take part in weekly fixtures against other local and district schools on a Wednesday afternoon. Every Wednesday afternoon 6th form have games, which allows them to choose a physical activity of their choice, those wanting to represent their school can choose to become a part of the teams. Having the opportunity to represent Spalding Grammar School at senior level is a great honour and privilege, something that a lot of students from year 7 look forward to doing their whole time at the school.
