It is with great sadness that we have been made aware of the death of our former student Morgan Swann.  Morgan joined Spalding Grammar School in September 2017 and left after completing his A-Levels in June 2024.  We send our thoughts and deepest condolences to his family, friends & former classmates.

Morgan was a hugely popular and well-respected member of the school community.  He took a real pride in his appearance and was a reflective and mature member of the Sixth Form.  He was able to combine his focus on attaining his academic potential alongside a wide social circle of peers, which included a tight network of close friends, who all knew they could rely upon him.

He was passionate about product design, particularly that of cars and motorbikes, a passion that developed from an early age with the influence of scooters and the style and music of the Mod and 2 Tone movements, including bands such as Madness and The Specials.

Morgan was also a talented sportsman and a valued member of both the School football and rugby teams in the Sixth Form.  Always dependable and reliable to give his best, he was a real team player.  He also excelled at athletics, performing to a high level in sprinting which required dedication along with the hard training expectations.

As well as the three A-Levels he studied, Morgan also completed the Sports Leaders’ Course where he was able to pass his love of sport on to younger students both from the Grammar School and by supporting local primary school events.

In the summer of 2024, after he had finished his A-Level exams, Morgan returned to the School to support the PE Department in the annual Summer Sports Week. He coached and led activities for the new Year 7 students alongside those from the current Year 8 & 9 cohorts who attended the week.  Morgan’s eagerness to make the week as enjoyable as possible for the younger pupils was clear to see.

After leaving school, Morgan’s ambition was to join the Royal Navy and he had been working locally whilst going through the rigorous application process. He had only recently secured a place at Britannia Royal Naval College to begin his career as a submariner.

If any of Morgan’s former classmates or friends would like to leave a tribute for him, as a School we would invite you to do this.  Please come to the main pedestrian gate and a member of staff will be available to speak to you and give you time to leave your tribute at the School.
