Careers Education
At Spalding Grammar School, we are committed to providing a complete and comprehensive careers programme for our students. We feel it is vitally important that every student has access to education, information, advice and guidance to ensure that they gain the necessary skills required for the career path that they eventually choose.
Starting in Year 7, students are well prepared through PaCE lessons and an introduction to Unifrog, our careers platform, leading them to make subject choices during the Year 9 options process and again in Year 11 for Post-16. They are able to make informed choices that reflect their interests and strengths, while making sure they don’t close any doors to possible future pathways. They will receive help and advice through a variety of forums, including PaCE lessons, a one to one personal guidance interview, work experience, contact with employers and education providers and our annual careers fair.
At Spalding Grammar School the Careers information, Advice and Guidance is coordinated and delivered by Mrs Hoyles. Mrs Hoyles has a Level 6 Diploma in Careers Guidance.
The types of support Mrs Hoyles can help you with are :
- Higher Education
- Further Education
- Employer Interaction
- Labour market Information
- Work Experience
We have careers information and Sixth Form and University prospectus in the library and the Sixth Form coffee lounge for students to view.
The careers team uses a variety of frameworks in order to assess our provision. We use the compass tool provided by the Careers and Enterprise Company in order to assess our success against each of the Gatsby Benchmarks. This assessment is completed once every term to establish up to date progress and termly priorities. Additionally, we are in the process of working with Unifrog so that we can use the data on what students have been doing to ensure that our measure of student activity is as accurate as possible. We also now complete a yearly internal leadership review through compass plus.
Furthermore, destination data is used to measure how far students have gone on to follow their chosen career paths, looking specifically at the number of students not in education or employment under the age of 18.
The Careers and Enterprise Company (Lincolnshire Hub) have put together some really useful Post 16 information for pupils and their parents/carers. This is sent out to Year 11 parents in the first term. Please use the link below to access this information:
