Maths: Key Stage 5
We will develop logical problem solvers who creatively use their mathematical skills and recognise the power of mathematics in everyday life.
In Key Stage 5 maths, students delve into more advanced and specialised topics, preparing them for higher education and various career paths. The core A-level maths curriculum includes areas such as pure mathematics, which covers algebra, calculus, trigonometric ratios, and binomial expansion. Students also study mechanics, focusing on the principles of forces, motion, and energy, and statistics, which involves data analysis, probability, and hypothesis testing. These topics not only build on the knowledge gained in earlier stages but also introduce new concepts and techniques essential for solving complex problems.
For those taking Further Maths, the curriculum is even more rigorous and comprehensive. It includes additional pure mathematics topics like complex numbers, matrices, and further calculus. Students also explore further mechanics, including momentum, collisions, and circular motion, as well as advanced statistics topics such as probability distributions and statistical inference. Further Maths often includes discrete mathematics, which covers algorithms, graph theory, and network flows.
