Primary Liaison Events

Transitioning between primary and secondary education is one of the most challenging times for children. At Spalding Grammar School, we recognise this, and to support students through this process we run a two-year programme for Primary Students in our feeder schools.

The programme begins in Year 4, providing students with Taster Mornings – to experience lessons, break times and an assembly.

In Year 5, we send Year 7 and 12 student pairs to their old primary schools to give a presentation about secondary school life, and follow this with Open Mornings for Year 5 students and their parents to tour the School.

Our annual Year 4/5 Open Evening takes place each summer term, during which students and parents can visit all departments to learn more about learning at SGS, and we end the year by offering 11+ support workshops.

As students move into Year 6, we host the 11+ examinations and offer further Open Morning opportunities prior to students receiving their results and making their final secondary school choices.

For those who choose SGS, we continue the transition support with a series of events in the summer term, which include a New Boys’ Evening (information for parents and an opportunity for students to meet their classmates), New Boys’ Day (another full taster day), and the opportunity to attend SGS Summer Sports, a week of sporting fun and team building with current Year 7-9 students.

We are extremely proud of our Primary Liaison Programme and the guidance it offers students and parents in helping to make key decisions about secondary education. We regularly receive positive feedback from students, parents and primary schools, about the support it offers towards primary to secondary transition.
